VISION & PLAN
OUR VISION
To create awareness amongst the local schoolchildren and tourists visiting Konkan about the immense beauty and rich biodiversity of this region. Our goal is to introduce to young minds the idea of wildlife conservation and habitat protection along with care for the environment. Our aim is also to provide a platform for experts in biodiversity conservation who want to share their knowledge with young nature lovers through lectures and workshops.
THE PLAN
To provide nature interpretation through interesting, interactive and thought provoking means. to primarily focus on local species endemic to the Konkan region, covering avian and marine species in a variety of ecosystems. To make learning about animals and birds a friendly and fun experience, aided by high quality dual language infographics, easy to use mechanical interactive displays and supported by location specific audio-visual experiences.

Gallery 1 - Introduction
Orientation for tourists and schoolchildren about the Konkan region, brief information about some of the endangered species and the threats they face. A video introduction on some of the most fragile ecosystems requiring everyone’s attention.
Credits and attributes to all persons and organizations who have contributed and played an important part in the creation of this wonderful experience. Gallery 2 - All About Birds
An introduction to birds with specific focus on birds that are endemic to the Konkan region, their identification through unique bird calls and feeding techniques, explained using audio-visual aids. Infographics and models explaining various types of nests found in the wild and a variety of nest building materials used. Infographics describing individual bird species with interesting facts about their habitat, size & weight, peculiar feeding habits and breeding patterns. Manual interactives displaying key anatomic adaptations of birds suited to their feeding habits and movement such as bird beaks, bird feet and wings. Gallery 3 - Mangroves & Wetlands
An introduction to Mangrove ecosystems and the variety of species they support through a large-scale diorama and a model showing partially submerged root system of a mangrove tree. Infographics explaining the benefits of Mangroves and their important role in preserving coastal communities. Infographics about wading birds, their feeding habits, migratory patterns and importance of preserving their habitat. Infographics about wetland ecosystems, their significance and the abundant species they support. Models explaining life cycle of butterflies and frogs. Gallery 4 - Marine Ecosystems
Introduction to Marine life, marine ecosystems and threats & challenges faced by coastal habitats. Infographics showing key Marine species in the Arabian sea and river estuaries along the Konkan coast. Interesting dioramas of Sharks, Manta rays and Trevally fish suspended from the ceiling. Showcases with models of seashells, corals and other mollusks. Audio-visual interactives displaying under-sea calls by giant sea mammals. Infographics on the various threats posed by humans to estuarian and marine ecosystems through environmental pollution with possible remedial solutions. Infographics about sustainable fishing practices and responsible sea-food consumption…..and more exciting stuff
Amenities and Facilities
The aranyavat forecourt serves as a focal point as well as a gathering area for large groups of students. Our amphitheater and stage is used for group discussions, guest lectures and presentations by conservation specialists. The highlight of our campus is a set of well maintained and serviced toilets for boys and girls with separate hand-wash area ensuring visiting schoolchildren have access to proper washroom facilities. Another unique feature of our campus is that it is entirely wheelchair friendly with ramps to access all areas, including 2 toilets specially dedicated to wheelchair bound visitors. This means we are ready to welcome persons with physical disabilities and senior citizens with limited physical ability.
